Welcome to Issue 17 of Think Fishing and this month we finally got round to me showing you how to fish one of my favourite methods - meat shallow on the pole. It’s a method I’ve wanted to show you since we started Think Fishing but because of conditions, time of year etc we’ve not been able to do it until now. Where meat is allowed, this is a method you have to try when the fish are up because most anglers will be fishing shallow with pellets which means you’ll have the meat all to yourself and believe me, it’s deadly!

I took the camera crew to The Sedges fishery, near bridgwater in Somerset, and it reinforces what I’ve just said, none of the locals fish meat shallow, they prefer a pellet approach, but the meat approach really opened their eyes and on the day I managed to catch a load of skimmers (they love the meat!) and carp shallow. Hope you enjoy watching it, I certainly had a great day’s fishing and one that I’ll remember for a long time.
