With cold weather and low temperatures firmly upon us, Des heads to Meadowlands, near Coventry, to show us his typical approach to catching silver fish in the winter. And, more importantly, he reveals what you need to do to keep those bites coming on bitterly cold days.
THINK FISHING WITH DES SHIPP
Welcome to Issue 23 of Think Fishing and Happy New Year to you all. With winter firmly upon us, fishing at this time of year is all about making bites and keeping fish coming regularly. That might be one fish every five minutes or one fish every 20 minutes, that all depends on the day, and your best chance of a few bites is to target those silver fish. For this latest issue, I went to back to Meadowlands near Coventry and this time I fished the complex’s large lake, Lambsdown, which is a complete contrast in size and depth compared to the smaller Warren Pool that I fished in Issue 7.
With a lot of open water and depth in front of me I felt sure the groundbait feeder would be the best method to start on, especially with skimmers being the target, but it didn’t quite turn out that way and it really emphasised just how important it is to have a plan B because venues rarely fish like you expect them to! Hope you enjoy the issue and I’ll see you next month.
