THINK FISHING WITH DES SHIPP
Welcome to Issue 33 of Think Fishing and this month we’ve got something a bit different for you… a session on a beautiful stretch of the Dorset Stour. Although over the last few years river fishing has definitely taken a back seat to commercials, carp and F1s, I love these venues because conditions are always changing, the colour always fluctuates and so does the rate of flow. You never really know what’s going to show up and it’s that unpredictability that makes this type of venue so appealing to me. You have to work to suss it out on the day and because of that, stretches of river like this are best venues to go to to learn about watercraft, bait presentation and feeding.
The icing on the cake though is that this type of river often provide idyllic surroundings to fish in and believe me when I say, it’s just an absolute pleasure to fish in surroundings like this and that’s something you rarely get to the same degree on commercials. On the day of our visit there was a hard frost in the morning followed by a bright, still sunny day so conditions weren’t ideal. The flow had dropped out of the river too as it was fining down after heavy rain the week previous although there was still a tinge of colour which was going to help. Overall it made for a very interesting day’s fishing so time to go and watch the video and find out what happened! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
